THOU SHALT NOT
(In honor of William Blake) Your quest was futile In your garden of love Your reading of the writings On the door-posts of the chapel Inspired your impulse to rebel against the great command THOU SHALT NOT Mayest I to thee speak as thou deserves Thou shalt not ! For it is written Thou shalt not! Hurray to them who violate the strong words of bondage Thou shalt not For ye that hindreth with wings spread like eagle Knowest thou too that… Thou shalt not In gardens pretty and fair In climes watered by goodness In temples tempered by mercies In sanctuaries sanctified by blood Thou shalt not The dogs are on high Sittting in spaces spared by spirits And the small cord lay waiting Yet… Thou shalt not Even the oh dog Roaring like a lion Clad in meek apparels Deserves thou the benevolence of… Thou shall not Now hurray to Him Who ostracized the strongman That shut many In the sanctuary of defeat Thou shalt not Thou shalt not… Thou shalt not Dubious and neutral Lending thyself to all who must harken Thou shalt not… yes in thy days Thou shalt not… and thy spouse Thou shall not…thy offspring generations ahead Thou shall not… the works of thy hands Hurray to Him…. Who abated thee THOU SHALT NOT
